Report Reveals Links Between States’ Mental Health Status And Treatment-Access
Thursday, November 29th, 2007Mental Health America released its report, “Ranking America’s Mental Health: An Analysis of Depression Across the States,” a first-of-its-kind study examining state and national data for statistical associations betweenfactors that govern access to mental health care and actual mental health outcomes, including suicide rates. Treating Depression Prolongs Life For Older People With Diabetes

Lifespan In C. Elegans Extended By Antidepressant
Thursday, November 22nd, 2007A team of scientists led by Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) investigator Linda B. Buck has found that a drug used to treat depression can extend the lifespan of adult roundworms.Buck and colleagues Michael Petrascheck and Xiaolan Ye report in the November 22, 2007, issue of the journal Nature, that the antidepressant drug mianserin can extend the lifespan of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans by about 30 percent. Wednesday, November 21st, 2007Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (NYSE: BMY) and Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the supplemental New Drug Application for ABILIFY(R) (aripiprazole) as adjunctive, or add-on, treatment to antidepressant therapy (ADT) in adults with major depressive disorder (MDD). Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Effective Treatment For Depression Chicago
